What is Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring ?

A small blood pressure measuring device connected to an arm cuff is worn throughout the day and night. The monitor inflated usually every 20-30 minutes and records the measurements in the device for later download by the ambulatory blood pressure monitoring service provider (possibly your GP).

Why use Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring ?

While clinic measurement of blood Pressure will continue to be useful for screening for high blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has an important place in defining abnormal patterns of blood pressure, particularly episodic hypertension, hypertension at home or at work, labile (variable) blood pressure and nocturnal or morning hypertension.

Importantly, ambulatory blood pressure provides a very good assessment of your actual blood pressure during your normal life.
